CropEnergies
Sustainable, renewable products from biomass
For plates, tanks, troughs—and much more
As early as 1983, a pilot plant for the production of sustainably produced ethanol was built at the Südzucker site in Ochsenfurt. However, it took another 22 years before the first large-scale plant went into production: it began operating in Zeitz in 2005. CropEnergies AG was founded a year later.
Today, the company stands for sustainable, renewable products from biomass. CropEnergies supplies the world with renewable carbon and leaves fossil fuels in the ground. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Be it alcohol for drinking, medical applications or as fuel, from renewable chemicals in nail polisher to biogenic CO2 in soft drinks: CropEnergies’ carbons are involved almost everywhere. By using renewable ethanol, the demand for fossil fuels can be reduced.
The company's ethanol plants are biorefineries that utilize all components of the raw materials to also produce animal feed, food, biogenic CO2, and other products.
