Südzucker decides on restructuring of plant locations

Mannheim, 21.03.2007

The impact of the reform of the EU sugar regime on market conditions has been significantly worse than previously expected for Südzucker. Südzucker is consequently forced to adjust its existing plant structures throughout the Group. The company sees no alternative to the closure of the Gross-Gerau and Regensburg plants in Germany. Plant structures have been reviewed annually since 1994 and since then both plants have been categorised as locations at risk.

Discussions on the structure concept will be initiated with the employee representatives at these plants and all other affected persons without delay, in order to guarantee a socially responsible basis for the closure of these sites.

A decision on the necessary plant closures and timelines will be made at the Südzucker AG supervisory board meeting scheduled for May of this year.
